It’s easy to underestimate the importance of our bees. These fuzzy buzzy insects are not just a pretty sight and sound in the summer, they are vital for much of how we live. Continue reading “Bee friendly gardening (infographic)” →

What I was trying to say in that accidental post earlier was - I'm feeling rather beige this week. It's the weather. It's the short days and I'm not getting enough time outside to be creative. I'm hoping the weekend will brighten the spirits and offer some opportunity ✨ Anyway, happy Wednesday you lot. Have some of my last autumnal shots. The leaves have been blown from the trees now. They are naked. . . . . . #aslowmoment #slowsimpleseasonal #moodcollectors #sustainableliving #slownaturemoments #mygarden #allotment #lovegardening #allotmentgarden #aseasonalshift #gardensofinstagram #gardenlovers #natureforsoul #botanicalpickmeup #aslowmoment #alifeofintention #gardenphotography #gardenblogger #autumnvibes #gardenersworld #haveselskabet #gardendays
I've been amazed to see one of the allotment neighbour's grow chillies outside this year. Not just this plant either. ROWS of them! I've not even contemplated growing chillies outside before because I simply didn't think it would work in the climate we have here in South Wales. I genuinely wonder if this is something that can be done year on year? I snapped these stunning red chillies still on one the plants last Sunday 🌶🌱 . . . . . #chillies #growyourown #homegrown #growwhatyoueat #chillilover #somelikeithot #organicgardening #ediblegarden #gardenblogger #allotment #allotmentlife #grownfromseed . #growyourown #growyourownfood #allotmentgarden #gardening #greenthumb #gardenchat  #gardenersofinstagram #urbangardening #gardenlovers #gardensofig #lovegardening #allotmentlove #gardenphotography
Ok. I'm looking for some advice. The dahlias are lifted and I've explained my reasons why I've chosen to lift them previously. In brief, it's due to the very wet winters we can get here and slug damage in the spring. But I'm a virgin dahlia lifter. The growth underneath the soil has amazed me. I mean look at them. They are huge. I know @homegrown.garden knows a bit about splitting the plants. So I'm doing a big smile in Katrina's direction to hopefully get a few pointers 😁 I have a couple of other questions to pick the brains of experience out there: 1. How do I clean them for storage? There's still a lot of soil around the tubers. Is this ok or do I need to do more. There quite a web of roots in there. 2. The polytunnel will probably freeze if the temperature drops significantly in the next few months. We tend to get our colder weather in late January and through February. I need to protect the tubers. Any suggestions? 🧡
Go for a walk in the woods. When all you need is a stick and a good imagination 🧡🍃
What colour is your shed? I still don't have a shed on my plot. It's due to be placed in the area I'm currently clearing. I know what size I want. I know what shape roof I would like. However, the choice of colour is a much harder decision to make 🎨
So the day didn't quite go as planned. After some morning chores I arrived at the allotment to crack on. Then the dark clouds rolled in. I confess the spots of rain were not much and I think I was far too easily persuaded to get back to a warm house. I guess it was just one of those days. However, as I walked down the site this stunning scene popped into view. I just had to capture it. Those pink Rose's against the dark clouds. Smile ☺️
